The music video for Carly Rae Jepsen's 2018 self-love anthem "Party for One" was directed by fashion and music video director Bardia Zeinali. Shot in a hotel in New York City, the cheeky, rom-com-inspired visual features Jepsen and a diverse cast of guests dancing, crying, and celebrating independence in their rooms. Zeinali, who is based in New York, first turned heads with the wildly funny song and video mashups he now posts to 90 thousand Instagram follower.
As a proud Iranian creative, he often brings a unique cultural perspective to his projects, appreciating the craftsmanship and high-end aesthetic deeply ingrained in Persian heritage. He has noted in interviews how meaningful it is to represent the Iranian community in the competitive, Western-dominated fashion and television industries.
"I am Iranian and my parents are Iranian, but I wasn't born there. I was born in Canada and I grew up in Canada. So I identify with that culture, but I do identify with Iranian culture, but I'm kind of, like, stuck in between the two. My mom is Muslim, my dad is an agnostic, and I went to Catholic school in Taiwan. All of these things are kind of nonsense and don't make sense at all next to each other, and I feel like that's always kind of my approach to something, too, is finding that paradox, I guess."
